Rogers Park
East Rogers Park is Chicago's farthest north side neighborhood, and is teeming with energy from nearby Loyola University. Loyola pulls in approximately 15,000 students a year who keep the community alive with coffee houses, vegetarian restaurants, independent bookshops, and some of the hippest hangouts in Chicago. A recent emergence of an entertainment and theater district plays host to an array of up-and-coming actors, troupes, and show houses.
East Rogers Park only began to form its own identity as a neighborhood about 30 years ago, so the architecture here is relatively contemporary. However, you'll still find vintage edifices intertwined with modern construction, but don't expect to see the building of any new high rises, as they've recently been banned to preserve views of the lake. No matter where you live in this community, beaches and shorefront parks are easily accessible, which works out well for outdoor enthusiasts, of which East Rogers Park has plenty.
There are many flats, condos, and single-family homes to choose from in this neighborhood, as well as a number of rehabbed structures, giving East Rogers Park a fine selection of residential options, from the historic to the fresh and trendy.
