Hyde Park
Hyde Park residents pride themselves on the fact that their neighborhood is unlike any other in Chicago. Reflections of Hyde Park's mixed character include the gargoyle-decorated campus of the University of Chicago, Frank Lloyd Wright architecture, neglected old mansions, and Rockefeller memorials. The original Monsters of the Midway (the University football team) once played here, supplying the first winner of the Heisman Trophy. Muhammad Ali and Louis Farrakhan once inhabited the area north of 51st Street.
Hyde Park is home to attractions and landmarks like the Museum of Science and Industry, the DuSable Museum of African American History, the Chicago Theological Seminary, and Frank Lloyd Wright?s Robie House. Harper's Court, located right off 53rd Street, offers an array of culturally diverse shops and restaurants, while Harper's Square--situated in the center of Harper's Court--is a great place to engage in a chess match. This ethnically integrated area has a lively suburban feel that draws families, singles, and students. Chicago loft buyers and renters will appreciate Hyde Park's safe, well-established community.
